L'Institut d'Ecologia Aquàtica (IEA) és un institut universitari de recerca dedicat a tots els ecosistemes aquàtics, inclosos els hàbitats d'aigües continentals (rius, aiguamolls, llacs, embassaments, etc.) i els marins. Actualment consta de tres seccions (limnologia, microbiologia i biologia marina), corresponents a quatre grups de recerca. Agrupa més de 30 investigadors experts en temes d'ecologia aquàtica (incloent estudis sobre bacteris, algues, macroinvertebrats i peixos) cosa que facilita la investigació multidisciplinària.
