Abstract

OBJECTIVES: The project of the Thesis "The Carolina Documentation in the Municipal Archive of Murcia (1516-1525). Edition and Socio-Institutional Study ", in terms of its documentary and historical duality, is articulated in a double aspect. The first one concerning the documentation, refers first to the location and systematic compilation of the inserted documents between the two dates indicated above in the Municipal Archive of Murcia and, secondly, proceed to the chronological classification and transcription of the documentary contingent. Obviously this study will also require for its realization the consultation of the bibliography that is necessary and complementary for this, not only the one referring to the capital city of Murcia, but also to those environments in which similarities and differences with respect to the socio-political world are appreciated And institutional citizen of the Kingdom of Murcia. Finally, the thesis will be completed with the realization of several indices. The first is the documents contained therein, organized chronologically and incorporating a complete documentary record, concise but explanatory of its content, as well as the one that will lead the transcription of the same. The second one corresponds to the bibliography, ordered by alphabetical order and if there are several by the same author, in chronological order of editing. METHODOLOGY: The methodology to be used since Charles I responds in most of its political conception more to a monarch of the Middle Ages than one agrees with the new airs that flooded Europe, and the same thing happens in the socio-institutional aspects in which few variations Can be seen with respect to the previous period, especially in the years that occupy the first quarter of the sixteenth century, which undoubtedly can be considered trans It will take time to reach the peninsula and, above all, Murcia. We believe that the methodology presented, which is not closed but open to the introduction of methodological considerations that are necessary, as issues arise from the analysis of the documentation applied to the reference thesis, will allow to answer the problems and aspects of the study of the documentation that and to give historical construction a solidity and agility, and to propose and explain the reality of Murcia between 1516 and 1525 in its varied and rich socio-institutional aspects. CONCLUSIONS: The Doctoral Thesis entitled “The Carolina Documentation in the Municipal Archive of Murcia (1516-1525). Edition and Socio-Institutional Study”, is inserted in the traditional line of research existing in the Region of Murcia, and forms the closing of a stage, the Middle Ages, and inaugurates another, the Modern Age. The Thesis is projected on a specific geographical space, the city of Murcia, and on an institution, the council of Murcia, during the period between 1516-1525, that is to say, from the first letter sent by Carlos I, being still Prince, to the council of Murcia, until the last letter selected for this investigation. In its entirety the documentation comes from the funds of the Municipal Archive of Murcia. But these institutions, apart from other considerations, are political, so that in a certain sense political history will also have to be taken into account in this plot, which is very much linked to the central monarchical power represented by Dona Juana and her son. But was Murcia in the first quarter of the sixteenth century a modern city? A priori the answer is no, because it is true that medieval archetypes and conditioners have disappeared, border case or the extinction of other religious practices, case of jews since 1492, but the reality is that, for example, the problem conver remains active and socio-institutional realities continue to respond to previous schemes, and along with it new realities open up on the horizon.
