El suicidio filmado: tedio, bovarismo y muerte voluntaria de la mujer decimonónica en el discurso narrativo y audiovisual

Abstract

La presente investigación es una contribución al análisis del suicidio femenino, interconectando dos vertientes que se nutren mutuamente: el universo literario y el fílmico. Las producciones literarias de heroínas suicidas decimonónicas y sus posteriores adaptaciones cinematográficas son el objeto de estudio a analizar a través de diversas teorías literarias y fílmicas, desde una perspectiva transversal de género. La tesis se basa en que el contexto histórico decimonónico marcó una determinada representación del suicidio femenino ligada a una imagen concreta del amor, de la mujer y de los valores morales inculcados por la moral burguesa. Orden social tan asfixiante que se materializa en el tedio, el cual se interpreta en gran parte de la literatura finisecular como el motivo del suicidio femenino Los intentos de escape de las mujeres que intentan individualizarse y crearse un mundo propio son, a su vez, interpretados como bováricos. Tedio y bovarismo se conjugan individualizando y patologizando, de esta manera, el malestar de las mujeres producido bajo unas estructuras patriarcales injustas.

The present investigation is a contribution to the analysis of female suicide, interconnecting two aspects that nourish each other: the literary and filmic universe. The literary productions of nineteenth-century suicide heroines and their subsequent film adaptations are the object of study to analyze through various literary and filmic theories, from a transverse perspective of gender. The thesis is built through the following hypothesis: the nineteenth context marked a certain representation of female suicide, representation based on a concrete image of women`s love and a moral values instilled by the bourgeois moral. Extremely suffocating social order that will derive, for women, in tedium. This pejorative feeling appears largely in finisecular literatura as a motive of female suicide. The woman`s attempts for the sake of individualization and to have a world of its own are, in most cases, interpreted under the nomenclature of bovarism. Tedium and bovarism are twinned individualizing and pathologizing, in this way, the discomfort of women produced under unfair patriarcal structures.
