Abstract

The goal of this Ph.D. dissertation is to provide a better understanding of the photophysics of CdSe NPLs and CdSe-based hetero-NPLs through theoretical modelling of the electronic structure. We consider homo- and heterostructured NPLs, and build adapted k · p Hamiltonians for such systems (including many-body interactions through Configuration Interaction (CI) techniques). The models are then used to analyse the influence of several relevant physical factors whose role has not been clarified in the literature. The gained understanding allows us to provide interpretation for different reported experimental observations, as well as to propose new paradigms of exploitation to further expand the functionalities of NPLs.
