El Espacio Público como Interfaz. Tranvía y Metro en Barcelona

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo el estudio de los espacios públicos, ligados a la implantación de infraestructuras de transporte público preferentemente guiado, y persigue profundizar en los aspectos de “urbanidad” que estos espacios pueden conseguir dar a la ciudad. De este modo, la investigación se centra en la calle, entendida como el espacio de interfaz y la infraestructura de trasporte como constituyente de la misma, es decir, vista como espacio público. Por tal razón y para efectos de este trabajo, dicha infraestructura se ha estudiado y analizado como un todo con la calle, de forma tal, que el espacio de la interfaz comprenda una nueva tipología, que articula diversas escalas y funciones en un espacio común tomando como base la función primaria de la calle: soporte del movimiento. En este sentido, tanto el canal de la infraestructura, como sus puntos de contacto con el resto de los sistemas urbanos, se convierten en espacios públicos privilegiados en la estructuración de partes importantes de la ciudad. De este modo, el estudio morfológico del crecimiento de la ciudad, pretende comprender la conformación del espacio de interfaz, a través de la relación transporte– espacio público y su implicancia en la configuración y ordenación del mismo. Asimismo, de acuerdo a la compatibilidad experimentada entre los medios de transportes públicos (ferroviario urbano) y el medio urbano, se pretende profundizar y ampliar el concepto de interfaz en el espacio público, centrando el análisis en dos aspectos. En primer lugar, lo relativo al espacio público como interfaz y su relación con el entorno (tejido circúndate); en segundo lugar, la concordancia entre la estructura urbana, la forma y función espacial de la interfaz y los aspectos operativos relacionados al transporte público, en los diferentes espacios públicos conformantes de la red. En ambos sentidos, es de interés dilucidar si el espacio público de interfaz, añade una nueva tipología urbana a las ciudades y si ésta representa una identidad diferente: un lugar, una zona específica de la ciudad. Así como, también si dicho lugar se constituye en un espacio de continuidad y cohesión, urbana y pública.

This work aims to study public spaces linked to the implementation of public transport infrastructure. The present study also seeks to analyse aspects of how public spaces contribute to generate "urbanity" within the city. Thus, this research focuses on the street, understood as how the space acts as interfaces. Also, the objective is to study transport infrastructure and its contribution to the street, i.e., seen as a public space. For this reason and for purposes of this work, the infrastructure has been studied and analysed within the street but both as a whole. Therefore, it is intended to establish the space as an interfaz that comprises a new typology, which articulates different scales and functions in a common space but taking into consideration the primary function of the street: movement support. In this sense, both the channel infrastructure as well as its points of contact with other urban systems becomes privileged public spaces in the structure of important parts of the city. Thus, the morphological study of the growth of the city aims to understand the formation of the interfaces space, through the relation transport- public space and its implication in the configuration and management of it. Also, according to the experienced compatibility between public transport (urban rail) and the urban environment, it is intended to investigate the concept of interfaces in the public space, focusing the analysis on two aspects. Firstly, as regards the public space as interfaces and its relationship with the environment (surrounding grid); secondly, the correlation between urban structure, spatial form and function of the interfaces and operational aspects related to public transport, in different public spaces that conform the network. In conclusion, it is interesting to ascertain whether the public space as an interfaces adds a new urban typology to cities and whether it represents a different identity: a place, a specific area of the city. Lastly, the objective is to determine if the place becomes a space of continuity and cohesion, urban and public.
