Del Sol al sòl. Energia, forma urbana i ús del territori. Una anàlisi a partir del cas de Barcelona i Catalunya

Abstract

La recerca estudia la relació entre l’energia, la forma urbana i els usos del territori a partir de la seva plasmació en la regió metropolitana de Barcelona i en el conjunt de Catalunya. L’anàlisi d’aquesta relació és abordada tant a partir de l’impacte de les infraestructures de subministrament energètic sobre el sòl com de la incidència de la localització i disposició dels teixits urbans sobre el consum d’energia. Sis articles, publicats en dos llibres i quatre revistes acadèmiques de prestigi, identifiquen els elements que intervenen en aquesta relació entre energia i territori i analitzen la seva incidència en el cas de Catalunya. L’exploració de les interaccions entre els processos de desenvolupament de les ciutats i de la infraestructura de subministrament d’energia, l’anàlisi de l’externalització d’impactes tan notables sobre l’espai com són l’ocupació de sòl i la localització d’aquestes infraestructures, la incidència de les pautes de localització, la morfologia i els usos dels desenvolupaments urbans sobre el consum domèstic d’electricitat i el de carburants o la capacitat de la lluminositat nocturna -com a expressió física d’aquest consum- per identificar precisament aquestes característiques morfològiques de les àrees urbanes són les qüestions que aborda la present tesi. Al costat de les respostes específiques a aquestes qüestions, la recerca conclou que la complexa relació entre energia i territori, tant pel que fa al subministrament com al consum, ha evolucionat al llarg de les darreres dècades en un doble procés de progressiu distanciament i desvinculació, i que aquest doble procés ha estat degut, en bona mesura, a la manca d’una planificació integrada, que consideri els elements territorials en el seu vessant sectorial i integri el vector energètic en el seu vessant territorial i urbanístic. La transició energètica que tot just ara comença a produir-se a Catalunya esdevé d’aquesta manera una oportunitat per reconsiderar no únicament el model energètic sinó també la manera en què aquest model considera els elements territorials.

The research looks at the relationship between energy, the urban form and the uses of the territory from case of the metropolitan region of Barcelona and in the whole of Catalonia. The analysis of this relationship is addressed both from the impact of the energy supply infrastructures on the ground and from the incidence of the location and disposal of urban settlements on energy consumption. Six articles, published in two books and four prestigious academic journals, identify the elements that intervene in this relationship between energy and territory and analyze their impact on the case of Catalonia. The exploration of the interactions between the city's development processes and the energy supply infrastructure, the analysis of the externalization of such remarkable impacts on space such as land use and location of these infrastructures, the incidence of the location pattern, the morphology and the uses of urban developments on the domestic consumption of electricity and that of fuels or the capacity of night-time lighting - as a physical expression of this consumption - for to identify precisely these morphological characteristics of urban areas are the issues addressed in this thesis. Together with the specific answers to these questions, the research concludes that the complex relationship between energy and territory, both in terms of supply and consumption, has evolved over the last decades in a double process of progressive distance and dissociation, and that this double process has been due, to a great extent, to the lack of integrated planning, which considers the spatial elements in its sectoral aspect and integrates the energy vector in its territorial and urbanistic aspect. The energy transition that is now just beginning to take place in Catalonia is thus an opportunity to reconsider not only the energy model but also the way in which this model considers the territorial elements.
